mipig cafe Harajyuku- Experience with micro pigs

What are micro pigs?

A very small pig that was bred in England.

It is common for children to grow up to 18 ~ 40 kg.

It’s so clean and smart that you can not only remember where to go to the bathroom, but also train it to be “Sit down.” or “Jump” just like a dog.

Also, it is less likely to cause allergies than dogs and cats, so it is recommended for those who have given up on pets.

Go out of JR Harajuku Station and go along Takeshita Dori, and there is a shop one street away.

The landmark is a big wooden entrance in the center of the brick building.

■It’s like a world of picture books! I get excited at the entrance.

■After leaving your shoes and luggage in the locker, wash your hands with soap.

■After washing your hands, disinfect hands!

When we entered the cafe, there were 3 private rooms lined up, and we were guided to a private room called ‘Kinouchi’.

■wood house

The private room on the right is the house of “straw” and the one on the left is the house of “brick”.

Oh, is this…

Yes! 『mipig cafe Harajyuku』 has a world view like a picture book with a motif of “3 Little Pigs”!

The interior of the room is very elaborate and cute!

■Straw House Interior. There is straw on the cushion of the tree stump and on the lighting!

■The cute wolf is also well reproduced. Pig, run!

■The lights are also the pig’s nose!

■There is also a sofa for pigs on the floor.

There are several pigs on the floor. You are such a friendly person that you are pickpocketing the knees of customers who come to the store with your parents.

When I was sitting in a private room and waiting, a pig came to play right away.

I was sitting on a human knee, and I relaxed and couldn’t move.

Are you sure? Don’t you think you’re too vulnerable?

Of course I’m happy!

How to touch with micro pig

・The pig doesn’t like their feet floating, so they doesn’t want to hold.
・If the pig comes closer and rides on the knee, it is OK to stroke it.
・Keep your fingers away from your mouth because they have poor eyesight .

They love the way it fits into the space between your knees and your chin on your arm, and sometimes they just sit there for about 10 minutes… it’s cute (laughs).

■Look! He is friendly!

■5-month-old Stella. He fell asleep comfortably for about 15 minutes.

Cafe menu

Pig donut limited to the Harajuku store.

It’s so cute that it’s a waste to eat it! (Of course I did.)

Pig’s ears are made of nuts and have a crispy texture.

Other than that, there will be a pork cake limited to holidays.

Please order it and enjoy the cuteness of the sweets.

■What a waste to eat! Cute pig doughnuts!

■It’s so cute that I want to eat it! (Let’s go!)

There are “normal plan” and “Private room plan” where you can spend time on the floor, and the regular plan is 1,000 yen per 30 minutes without tax (one-drink system). Drinks are from 600 yen.

In the case of a private room plan, in addition to the above price, it costs 500 yen per 30 minutes for 1 room.

According to the staff, if you choose a private room, you will surely be able to find 1 ~ 2 dogs in your room, so if you absolutely want to touch them, we recommend a private room.

If you come with 5 people and split the bill, you can get a private room for 100 yen, which is reasonable!

If you are not busy in the morning right after opening, there is a high possibility that you can touch various pigs on the floor, so if you want to be surrounded by a lot of pigs, I recommend the weekday morning.

*You need to make a reservation in advance for the mipig cafe.

Story of opening『mipig cafe』

Since I came here for the pre-opening, I listened to the story until the Micro-Buta Cafe opened.

Staff: It was originally started with the thought of “I want to raise a micropig in Japan” by staff who love exotic animals. After visiting a micro pig farm in Wales, England, we were able to build a farm in Yamanashi with a lot of support through crowdfunding.
Initially, it was planned to operate as a Fureai Farm in Yamanashi Prefecture as a way of regional revitalization…
Me: What happened?
Staff: In September 2018, just as we were preparing, swine cholera  broke out in Japan.
Me: What a timing! Animal cafe seems to have a high risk of infection.
Staff: That’s right. Because it was difficult for pigs to come into contact with an unspecified number of people in the farm, the company changed its policy and started up a cafe in Tokyo. From there, everything proceeded at a rapid pace, from finding a place to preparing a menu.
Me: The Meguro store opened in March, 2019, so it was a very busy half year. Is there almost no risk of swine cholera infection for pigs if they are kept in a cafe?
Staff: Pig cholera is a contagious disease of wild boars, so it is not transmitted to humans, but there is a possibility that it is transmitted to pigs through humans. Therefore, we do not allow people who have a history of traveling to African countries where swine fever has occurred, such as China, within a week, or who have visited pig houses within two days.
Me: If you just arrived in Japan yesterday or you are a foreigner entering the country, it can be difficult even if you want to come.
Staff: Yes, there are many foreigners who stay for a long time. At Meguro store, about 1/3 of all customers are from overseas.
Me: Wow! That’s great! The Harajuku store seems to have a higher ratio.
Staff: Harajuku is a popular area for inbound travelers, so we have many English-speaking foreign staff. Animal cafes like Mipig Cafe have a unique Japanese culture and there are no such restaurants overseas, so they are very popular as one of the sightseeing spots in Japan.

*Classical swine fever: a disease of pigs and wild boars. It is characterized by high fever (About 40 degrees.) and a high fatality rate. It is highly contagious, but it does not infect humans. In September 2019, swine cholera was confirmed in a pig farm in Gifu Prefecture. It has been 26 years since swine cholera occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1992. Please check the Gifu HP (https://www.pref.gifu.lg.jp/kinkyu-juyo-joho/tonkorera-h30.html) for more information on classical swine fever.
